Located on the 3rd floor of an existing 100 year old building that had never been used or built-out, the original hardwood floors were kept and refinished; all the existing heavy timber construction was exposed and reused. The building was connected to an adjacent building on this level through an opening with a solid steel fire door which was reused in the space. Existing windows were reworked to keep them original and take advantage of the great views of the courthouse and lighting was selected to be period correct and continue the industrial theme of the room.
The client wanted to create a gathering/meeting room with a relaxing atmosphere and wanted the room to be a place to display his numerous trophies from his trips to Africa so the room needed to a back drop and accent the trophies.
Floors were sanded back to raw wood and stained. Plaster was removed from the walls to expose the exterior masonry walls and removed from the ceilings to expose the original heavy timber construction.
